Is the hiring system broken? I decided to find out.
Last week, I conducted a social experiment. I applied to 100 Remote Marketing & Tech Jobs.
- 50 Applications: Written manually by me (Human).
- 50 Applications: Written entirely by ChatGPT-4 (AI).
I used the exact same qualifications. The only difference was the Cover Letter and Resume wording. I expected the Human version to win. I was wrong.
The Data
| Metric | Human | AI (ChatGPT) |
|---|---|---|
| Applications | 50 | 50 |
| Rejections | 35 | 12 |
| Interviews | 3 | 14 |
Why Did AI Win?
Recruiters use ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) to scan resumes. Robots are hiring robots. ChatGPT knows exactly what keywords the ATS bots are looking for.
How I Did It (The Prompt)
I didn't just ask ChatGPT to "write a resume." I used a specific "Keyword Injection" prompt.
The Prompt: "Act as a Senior Recruiter. Rewrite this resume bullet point to include the following keywords: [Job Description Keywords]. Use action verbs and quantify results."
If you want to replicate this experiment and get hired, I have compiled the full list of tools and prompts I used in my Ultimate AI Roadmap.
Conclusion
The job market has changed. If you aren't using AI, you are fighting with one hand tied behind your back.
